The U-12 boys’ tennis team of Ghana has maintained their impressive form at the 2024 ITF/CAT 12 & Under Teams’ Competition, hosted at the National Tennis Centre in Gaborone, Botswana.
On Wednesday (9 October), under the guidance of coach Charles Abugbila, Ghana triumphed 2-1 over Tunisia, securing their second win of the tournament.
Tunisia initially took the lead, with Youssef Lahmar defeating Ghana’s Eric Torto 6-3, 6-0 in the singles.
However, Jeff Frimpong levelled the score for Ghana by dominating Omar Zniti 6-1, 6-2 in the second singles match.
The decisive moment came in the doubles, where Frimpong teamed up with Ethan Dzidzornu for Ghana, while Tunisia fielded Lahmar and Zniti.
Ghana claimed the first set 6-3, but Tunisia fought back to win the second set 6-4. In a nail-biting final set, Ghana edged out Tunisia 10-8, securing the overall victory.
This win places Ghana at the top of Group A, with only hosts Botswana left to face.
The 2024 ITF/CAT 12 & Under Teams’ Competition, featuring 18 teams from 11 countries, will run until Sunday (13 October) as teams vie for continental glory.
