Ghana must abandon multi-party democracy – Former CalBank MD

Former CalBank MD Frank Adu Jr has advocated for Ghana to abandon its multi-party system and instead, introduce a two-party SYSTEM.

He made this statement while addressing participants at the Conversation Under the Baobab Tree: Ɔdadeɛ National Dialogue, themed “So Much Things to Say,” held in Accra on Wednesday.

Mr Adu emphasised the necessity for the country to officially recognise that it effectively operates as a two-party system.

“Let us agree to abandon multiparty democracy and introduce a duo party democracy. That is to say let us officially recognise that we have two parties because effectively that is what we have but let us officially recognise that we have two parties. This is controversial but hear me out,” he stated.

The former MD of CalBank also called for the abolition of party manifestos.

“Let us abolish party manifestoes which only make flowery promises some of which are frankly puerile and unrealistic but most dangerously are made without recourse to the effects on national finances and long-term effects on the economy,” he stated.
