The chief of Akyem Afiesa, Otafregya Agyeman Kumaning II says that politicians should be blamed for the Galamsey activities in the country.
The chief expressed worry during an interview with Joy News over the Galamsey issues in some parts of the small towns in Akyeam which have affected the water bodies and have forced residents to depend on sachets of water for survival.
He further slammed the ruling government over their inability to stop the ongoing illegal galamsey activities although it was one of the promises made.
The chief also called on organizations to prioritise the protection of the environment through corporate social responsibility alongside their financial goals.
“The galamsey activities have affected all our water bodies. When you go to the farm, it is even difficult to get water to drink from these water bodies due to its deteriorating state. The mining activity has affected the water bodies.”
“Water bodies have been destroyed since 2010. I can say that the government is partly to blame; both past and current. The police, fire service, immigration and even customs patrol but no one questions anyone involved in this mining activities if they have the license”. He bemoaned.
