Forget polls predicting Mahama’s win, NDC will see pepper on Dec 7- Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi

Former Education Minister, Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, who served under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has spoken out against the wave of surveys and opinion polls predicting a landslide win for National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming election.

Addressing New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Kintampo North, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi challenged the reliability of these polls, which have increasingly painted a favourable picture for the NDC.

While acknowledging the reputability of some of the polling organizations, Ameyaw-Akumfi argued that many of these surveys fall short in capturing the nuanced political sentiment across Ghana.

“I respect the reputation of these organizations, but some of these polls are just too superficial to reflect the reality on the ground,” he said. For him, true public opinion will be revealed on December 7, when voters step into the polling stations, casting ballots that will shape Ghana’s future.

Ameyaw-Akumfi’s remarks were meant to boost morale among the NPP supporters as the party seeks to achieve its ambitious goal of “breaking the 8” – a reference to maintaining power beyond the typical two-term cycle, a feat no Ghanaian political party has yet accomplished.

“The NPP has a vision for Ghana, and it’s up to us to stay focused on that vision rather than being swayed by predictions,” he urged, reminding supporters of the achievements under the current administration and the importance of continuity.

Speaking to chiefs, community leaders, and party members, Ameyaw-Akumfi drew from his own political experiences, sharing how he had faced challenging odds in the past and yet remained resolute.

“Every journey in politics has obstacles,” he told his audience, adding that resilience and unity would be essential for the NPP’s success. He recounted his early days in politics, when he too had faced skeptics and doubters but managed to persevere. “I’ve been through tough campaigns myself,” he said, “and I can tell you that polls are just one side of the story.”

Ameyaw-Akumfi’s message highlighted a common sentiment among NPP leaders as they aim to energize supporters amid challenging poll results.

His speech in Kintampo North was not only a call to ignore the noise of predictions but also an invitation to focus on the core achievements and promises that resonate with everyday Ghanaians. He reminded party members that polling trends can change and that unwavering dedication is essential in the final push toward the election.

“Do not let these polls discourage you,” he advised. “Instead, take them as a reminder that every single vote matters. Our job now is to reach every Ghanaian, every family, every community with our message.”
