Fire destroys teachers’ bungalow at Toase SHS

A fire has destroyed a teachers’ bungalow at Toase Senior High School (SHS) in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The blaze, which broke out on Friday afternoon, (20 December), razed through four flats, leaving teachers who occupied the structure without their belongings.

The fire reportedly started in one flat and rapidly spread to the other three, completely consuming two of them. While occupants of the remaining two flats managed to salvage some items before the flames reached their units, the damage was extensive.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were recorded. However, Ernest Opoku Mensah, the Assembly Member for the Toase Electoral Area, confirmed that the teachers lost most of their personal possessions.

“We have one bungalow with four flats, and four teachers occupy them. The fire started in one flat and spread quickly. The teachers in two flats managed to pick a few items, but for the other two, everything was completely destroyed. Thankfully, no casualties were recorded,” he said.

“The school has secured an apartment for them to provide some immediate relief while further actions are decided,” Mensah added.

The fire at Toase SHS marks the third reported incident in the Ashanti Region within two weeks. Earlier, on Tuesday (17 December), a blaze ravaged at least six shops at the Racecourse Market in Bantama.
Traders were left devastated as their livelihoods went up in flames. At Obuasi a devastating fire swept through shops last Friday, killing at least three people and injuring nine others.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations yet to determine the source of the disaster.
