Ghanaian rapper, David Kwaku Effum Boafo popularly known as Obibini has responded to the news of the Grammy Awards’ expansion into Africa.
In a recent interview on Property FM in Cape Coast, Obibini argued that the initiative to have the African version of the Grammys should be embraced.
“There’s been divided opinions about the Grammy Africa initiative but I think it’s not a bad idea because Grammy Africa is a good look though there’s the original one.
“I think we should embrace the idea of what the organizers are saying and let’s hope that by all means it would get us somewhere because it’s another step ahead,” he said.
He added, “Maybe very soon we’ll cross thresholds and borders that will make them realize that they should play fair with these guys so Africa Grammy is good news which will add to our love for the TGMAs”.
Recently, veteran musician, M3nsa, expressed his disapproval of the idea stating that African music already has a global reach and doesn’t need a separate awards ceremony.
