A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah is spearheading an educational campaign in the Ashanti Region ahead of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
His focus is on reducing the alarming rate of rejected ballots, which has been a persistent concern in previous elections.
During a final campaign tour of the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency, COKA as he is affectionately called, emphasized the importance of proper voting to prevent costly mistakes.
“We cannot repeat the sins of yesterday”, he told party supporters. “The increasing number of rejected ballots in our region alone over the last election years is way too much, and this year, this must be avoided.”
He urged NPP members to engage in door-to-door sensitization campaigns to educate voters on the correct way to cast their ballots, ensuring their votes count.
“Our party must not lose votes due to unpardonable errors,” he emphasized.
COKA also called on the electorate to replicate the voting commitment shown during former President Kufuor’s era to secure a convincing victory for the NPP.
“Voter apathy is exactly what we are preaching against. We need all hands onof deck. If you stay home, we may regret the outcome of the election. Our loyalty to the party counts now more than ever,” he urged passionately.
The campaign comes against the backdrop of data from the Electoral Commission, which revealed that in the 2020 Presidential election, the Ashanti Region recorded 34,858 rejected ballots, representing 1.39% of the total votes cast in the region.
COKA’s initiative aims to change this narrative, rallying party faithful and voters to cast valid ballots in the upcoming December polls.
