The majority leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Hon Alexander Afenyo-Markin, compared John Mahama and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing the NPP flagbearer’s campaign conduct.
According to Afenyo-Markin, Dr Bawumia has maintained a respectful tone and refrained from hurling insults throughout his campaign.
Speaking to Joy News, Afenyo-Markin asserted that Dr Bawumia represents Ghana’s best chance for progress, contrasting him with the NDC, which he criticized for lacking a clear vision for the country after their eight years in office.
“The only opportunity Ghana has is Dr. Bawumia and not the old NDC, who cannot articulate their own vision for Ghana or how they plan to transform it,” he stated.
He further accused the NDC of relying on insults and fostering chaos rather than presenting constructive messages. As an example, he cited the ongoing dispute over parliamentary seats, particularly the controversy surrounding the majority status in parliament.
This dispute arose after a ruling party member, Cynthia Morrison, decided to run as an independent candidate in her constituency, a move the NDC leveraged in claiming majority status.
Afenyo-Markin urged NPP parliamentary candidates and supporters to remain steadfast, highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities and focused campaign.
“Momentum is on our side. Momentum is on the side of the NPP. Everyone can attest to the fact that since Dr. Bawumia started campaigning, he hasn’t insulted anybody.
“Each time he mounts a platform, he communicates what he wants to do for Ghanaians. This is the man you need to give an opportunity to. This is the man you need to test to see what he can do,” he implored.
The NPP continues to advocate for Dr. Bawumia as a visionary leader capable of addressing Ghana’s challenges, positioning him as a stark contrast to what they describe as the NDC’s disorganized approach to governance.
