The Member of Parliament(MP) for North Tongu and former Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has advised Ghanaians not to trust the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) claims of reducing the size of government when they are voted into power.
It would be recalled that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, revealed during the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, that he will cut down ministerial appointments at 50 if elected as Ghana’s next president.
According to Dr Bawumia, the leaner the government, the more effective it will be as well as cut down government expenditure.
However, Okudzeto Ablakwa has asked Ghanaians not to trust Dr Bawumia to cut down the ministers as promised as he cannot be trusted.
During an interview on Joy Prime Morning, the lawmaker said that the NPP has the infamous track record of appointing more than 100 ministers. He further compared the regime of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, saying that he also used a large number of ministers hence the NPP cannot be trusted to reduce the number of ministers as promised by Dr. Bawumia.
“NDC has never gone beyond 100 ministers. We have never apologized because we have been sincere regarding the size of the government. Take the office machinery, another area I’ve been focusing on in parliament. Very unnecessary positions like the presidential staffer for diaspora affairs, they have somebody for church relations, diaspora church relations manager. All kinds of positions at the expense of the taxpayers”, he disclosed.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized how the NDC will streamline the entire public service and cut down the size of government when voted into power.
