Don’t let NDC, NPP play games with you – Vim Lady Warns Ghanaians ahead of Elections

Popular Broadcast Journalist Afia Pokuaa, popularly known as Vim Lady, recently sounded the alarm on the deceptive tactics she believes the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are likely to use as the general elections approach.

Speaking on her Gyaso Gyaso program on Okay FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Vim Lady urged Ghanaians to be cautious, stressing that voters should not be swayed by last-minute political ploys but rather vote with conscience and consider the country’s current state.

“Don’t let these politicians play games with you,” she stated firmly. “Both NPP and NDC have a history of using crafty tactics to sway voters. My message is simple: think about your future, look at the state of the country, and let that guide your decision at the polls.”

Vim Lady went on to share a video clip of John Dramani Mahama at one of his recent rallies. In the video, Mahama accused the NPP of attempting to buy votes by distributing items like bottles of oil—a move he claims is a reaction to the current economic hardships. “They know the economy is hard,” Mahama can be heard saying, “and because people can no longer afford basic needs, they are now using these very things to buy votes.”

Responding to Mahama’s accusation, Vim Lady did not hold back. “Let’s be honest here,” she said. “The NPP may be giving out freebies, but is the NDC any different? Both parties have been involved in vote-buying. It’s not a secret.” Drawing on her extensive experience as a journalist covering multiple elections, she noted, “This isn’t something new. I’ve seen it happen over and over again.”

She also expressed particular concern for first-time voters, whom she described as being especially susceptible to these tactics. “New voters are a prime target for these politicians,” she explained. “They shower them with gifts and promises before elections, but once the votes are counted, they vanish. Four years later, they’ll return to woo a new crop of voters, repeating the cycle.”

In her closing remarks, Vim Lady reiterated her caution to Ghanaians, calling for vigilance and a deeper focus on policies and track records rather than temporary benefits. “If we want change, we have to vote responsibly. Don’t let anyone buy your vote for a bottle of oil or a bag of rice. This is your future; don’t give it away cheaply,” she urged.
