Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Minister for Communications and Digitization has urged Ghanaian students of all levels to reduce the time they spend on social media and rather redirect that energy to the Knowledge and Skills Bank Portal which provides them with unlimited learning materials.
Disclosed that the new portal provides them a lot of opportunities in line with Ghana’s education curricula which is more beneficial compared to the precious time wasted on social media.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills bank portal was officially launched at the Accra digital center on September 17, 2024, and grants access to over 5 million online library archives, learning resources and tools for both students and researchers and comes in several other languages with an option for a personal teacher
During an interview on Accra-based Peace FM, Ursula Owusu said that the portal would give students access to knowledge and emphasized that the purpose of the portal was to furnish students with studying resources at the click of a button.
“The portal was created to enable intensive learning. It is part of the plans executed with the help of the World Bank for the Ministry of Education. We only facilitated the process. According to the minister, all the books needed for student learning are on this newly built portal.
“I would like to use this opportunity to urge all students to reduce the time they spend on social media apps and redirect that time to this portal that provides various teaching and learning materials for them. We cannot force the knowledge into their brains but can only provide the infrastructure for them to learn in the comfort of their homes which we have done. Parents, Guardians and Researchers can also take advantage of this portal since it cuts across all levels of learning”, she disclosed.
She further added that teachers and authors who write books can also upload their books on this portal if only GES approves them adding that the portal has all the books hence it is not necessary to buy hard-copy books from the bookshop.
Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful further added that the portal has created a space where students can create study groups and learn together as well.
“We have uploaded all pass questions on the portal including artificial intelligence which can aid students with more understanding of works. The portal consists of content which can be used to teach children at the Kindergarten level to the University level. It has research papers you can study with.” She revealed.
