Blame management of Korle Bu over faulty elevators – NPP’s Benjamin Gyewu

Benjamin Gyewu, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team insists the management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital should be blamed for the faulty elevators which forced the surgical department to suspend surgeries.

It would be recalled that Kwabena Mintah Akandoh , NDC’s Manifesto Spokesperson on Health made headlines after he stormed the facility to enquire about the suspension of elective surgeries allegedly over faulty elevators.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh visited the facility with some journalists to verify the claims about the faulty elevators.

However, upon arrival, they were met by a staff member who refused to allow the MP to conduct interviews within the premises of the surgery department, leading to an altercation.

Reacting to the issue  Benjamin Gyewu stated in an interview with Joy Prime during the morning show that the leaders of Korle Bu should be blamed for the recent elevator brouhaha.

According to him, some conversations were done with some of the staff at Korle Bu who bitterly complained about the management and how they turn a blind eye to certain issues that need to be fixed in the facilities.

“The maintenance culture in most of these hospitals is poor. That is why am citing Ridge Hospital as an example.  If you like going to Ridge Hospital, it is an eyesore. All the air conditions are rusting. If you check the emergency wards, a place that was painted nicely is now dirty”, he claimed.

According to  Benjamin Gyewu, publicizing the issue at Korle Bu was right because there are issues that need to be addressed.

“I think it is important to stress on the need for our maintenance culture. The government should come in and set up a maintenance agency. This will even cut down costs. We won’t have to wait for equipment to get spoilt before fixing them. But if things are maintained we won’t get to a point where we need to fix or replace them”. He said.
