A report by Accra-based Citi News suggests some commercial banks in Ghana will start closing down foreign currency savings accounts.
This is expected to be done by July 31, 2024.
The report indicated that clients with such accounts are being asked to move their currencies in e-wallets or current accounts.
A circular to clients of these banks explained that the move is geared towards ultimately phasing out the account.
However, some customers believe that it is a move to impose fees and diminish customers gains as the cedi continues to fall in value.
The report said the Ghana Association of Bankers is yet to clarify the issue.
