The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming 7 December election to continue the development agenda set by the NPP government.
According to the First Lady, Bawumia is the ideal candidate to sustain her husband’s legacy and preserve transformative policies like the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
Addressing supporters during a campaign tour at Agbogbloshie of the Odododiodio constituency on Monday (25 November), Akufo-Addo highlighted Bawumia’s intelligence, visionary leadership, and proven expertise in economic management, describing him as uniquely positioned to lead Ghana towards greater progress.
“My husband, [Nana] Akufo-Addo, introduced the Free SHS policy and has rolled it out well over the last eight years. We know the roots of the policy, and it is only the NPP that can continue it effectively for progress.”
“Dr. Bawumia is God’s gift to Ghana, and he is incomparable. He is the one who can ensure Ghana progress. Let us not be deceived into changing the NPP government. We must vote for continuity for the betterment of Ghana,” she added.
Historically, the Odododiodio constituency has been a stronghold for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with only one significant victory for the NPP in 2000, but the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Abdul Manaf Sowah, urged the people to vote based on key projects and developments by the NPP government and not based on a usual voting pattern.
“NPP is a party that cares for all Ghanaians. We implement policies that help Ghanaians, which is evident looking at our track record. We are asking you to give us the chance this year so we can continue the good work we’ve started.”
The NPP parliamentary candidate for the Ledzokuku constituency, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, addressing supporters during the First Lady’s visit to his constituency, made a promise to establish a fund if elected to assist with health, education, and the welfare of his constituents.
