Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reaffirmed his commitment to preserving Ghanaian cultural and moral values by pledging to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft accusation bills into law if elected President.
Speaking to congregants at the Believers Worship Center, Philadelphia Church, at Kenyase, Ashanti Region on Sunday (1 December), Dr. Bawumia assured Ghanaians of his resolve to protect the nation’s traditional values while fostering an environment of justice and fairness.
“I am committed to ensuring that Ghana remains rooted in its cultural and moral values. If elected, I will sign into law the anti-LGBTQ+ bill and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill because our traditions and beliefs must be protected from undue external influence.”
Dr. Bawumia used the platform to seek divine blessings for his presidential campaign, urging Ghanaians to pray for a peaceful election.
“I believe in the power of prayer, and I call on all of you to pray for Ghana and for the success of the upcoming elections. Without God we labour in vain,” he said.
The congregation warmly received Dr. Bawumia’s remarks, with many expressing appreciation for his clear stance on these contentious issues.
The Founder and Leader of the Believers Worship Center, Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah, a prominent advocate for the anti-gay and anti-witchcraft legislation, welcomed the Vice President’s assurance to sign the bills into law.
He pledged to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions with prayers.
“Your commitment to safeguarding our cultural and moral fabric is commendable, and we stand with you in prayer and support,” the pastor said.
