Leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Felix Ofosu Kwakye has expressed concerns over the recent LI in Parliament to allow MPs among others to use sirens and drive above speed limits.
This does not sit well with the aspiring Member of Parliament because, to him, the speed limit exists for a purpose that cannot be overlooked.
Adding that he does not get why MPs and ministers should be above the law.
His opinion shared via social media read “I am aspiring to go to Parliament but I am not sure this LI allowing Ministers and MPs to use sirens and drive above the speed limit sits well with me.The speed limits exists for safety reasons. Why should MPs and Ministers drive above it?”
The amendment of Regulation 74 of LI 2180 will now permit the fitting of sirens or bells as warning appliances on specific classes of vehicles, including those owned by justices of the Supreme Court, Members of Parliament, and Ministers of State.
