President Akufo-Addo has said empowering women and youth is critical for attaining sustainable development, and inclusive growth on the African continent.
Speaking at the 50 years of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the launch of the Arab-Africa Financial Consortium in Accra on Sunday (21 July), Akufo-Addo commended BADEA for supporting various initiatives aimed at empowering women and youth in Africa.
“Empowering women and youth is necessary for attaining sustainable development and inclusive growth, Women and young people are the backbone of our societies, their active participation is crucial for our progress,” the president said.
“It is gratifying to note that BADEA has supported various initiatives aimed at empowering women and youth, from microfinance programmes to entrepreneurship drive,” he added.
“However, there is still a significant gender gap, and high youth unemployment in many of our countries, we must take bold and decisive action to address these issues, this includes promoting gender equality, supporting women-owned businesses and creating opportunities for young people to gain meaningful employment and self-employment,” Akufo-Addo said.
