2025 AFCON Qualifiers: One home-based player earns spot in Ghana’s squad for Angola Mali games

Ghana coach Otto Addo has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming games against Angola and Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Kotoko’ goalkeeper Frederick Asare being the only home-based player to have earned a spot.

Otto Addo on Thursday afternoon released his squad for the first two games of the AFCON qualifiers.

Asare, who was part of the squad that played against Mali and Central Africa Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June has been maintained.

Notable players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, Jordan Ayew and others have all been named in the squad.

Captain, Andre Ayew, who is currently a free agent has for the second time being overlooked by the technical handlers of the team.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will be without some key players including, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salis Abdul Samed, Ernest Nuamah and Gideon Mensah due to injury setbacks.

The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 before travelling to take on Niger in Morocco on September 9.

The AFCON qualifiers are crucial for the Black Stars, who are seeking to secure a spot in the tournament.

It is important to note that the two top countries from each group will secure automatic qualification to the CAF biggest competition on the continent.
