American superstar gymnast Simone Biles failed to add to her Olympic women’s balance beam medal collection as she finished fifth in the final at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Monday (5 August) at the Bercy Arena.
Biles, who won bronze in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, suffered a disappointing fall from the beam during her routine, ultimately scoring 13.100.
The error left the 27-year-old visibly frustrated as she watched her score posted on the scoreboard.
Italy’s Alice D’Amato claimed gold with a score of 14.366, while compatriot Manila Esposito took bronze with 14.000. China’s Yaqin Zhou secured silver with a score of 14.100.
The American gymnastics superstar, already a three-time gold medallist in Paris, now turns her attention to the floor exercise final, where she is a favourite for the gold medal.
