Harry Stacey and Joselle Mensah to represent Ghana at 2024 Paris Olympics

Ghanaian swimming sensations Harry Stacey and Joselle Mensah are set to represent Ghana in the men’s 100m and women’s 50m freestyle events, respectively, at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

As the highest-ranked male and female swimmers in the country, according to the World Aquatics Point Table, Stacey and Mensah have secured Ghana’s two wildcard slots for the Games.

Stacey, alongside Nubia Adjei, represented Ghana at the 16th Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships in Luanda, Angola, last April.

Stacey impressed by reaching the final of the men’s 100m freestyle, clocking 51.26 seconds in the preliminary heats to secure third place.

In the finals, he swam a time of 50.67 seconds, earning the bronze medal.

Mensah also showcased her talent at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, where she swam a time of 26.77 seconds in Heat 3 of the women’s 50m freestyle, finishing third and advancing to the finals.

Although she narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a time of 26.52 seconds, her performance was commendable.

Many had expected Abeiku Jackson to secure one of the wildcard slots after his impressive performance at the 13th African Games, where he won silver in the men’s 50m butterfly and bronze in the men’s 100m butterfly.

However, the 24-year-old record holder was ineligible, having already used the wildcard route for the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.

Stacey and Mensah will make their Olympic debut at the 2024 Games, and there is great hope that they will make a significant impact in Paris.
