Ghana’s economic recovery will only be possible through a collaborative effort between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, a prominent member of the NDC.
Speaking on The Forum on Asaase 99.5 on Saturday (27 April), Samoa Addo painted a bleak picture of the current situation and emphasised the need for a united approach to address the economic challenges.
“The current state of the Ghanaian economy is one of complete and utter hopelessness,” he said.
“I have come to the conclusion that the kind of damage that has been done to this economy, it will take a collaborative effort between government and opposition to lift us and to give us a clear path towards economic recovery.”
Samoa Addo acknowledged the need for potentially unpopular measures, particularly regarding taxation.
“In terms of taxes that we have to all agree that we need to take some painful decisions on taxes in order to create the necessary environment and the needed resources to be able to lift the Ghanaian economy.”
