CAF President Patrice Motsepe to attend funeral of Issa Hayatou

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will attend the funeral of former CAF President Issa Hayatou on Friday, August 16, 2024.The announcement of Hayatou's passing came on Thursday, August 8, 2024, just one day before he would have celebrated his 78th birthday.His contributions to African football have left a lasting legacy, making his death a significant loss for the sport.The funeral will take place in Garoua, Cameroon, where Hayatou will be laid to rest.Motsepe will honor his predecessor alongside prominent figures in African football, including Samuel Eto'o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), CAF Vice-Presidents, several CAF Member Association Presidents, and CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba.Hayatou's leadership spanned nearly three decades, serving as CAF President from 1988 until his departure in March 2017, when Ahmad Ahmad succeeded him.Additionally, he briefly held the position of interim FIFA President from October 2015 to February 2016, following Sepp Blatter's suspension.
