Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufour, has urged the Speaker of Parliament to stand firm and resolve the issues in Parliament.
He has encouraged him to take bold steps in resolving the issues which has the potential of tainting his unblemished record in Parliament.
Kufour was speaking to Accra-based Asempa FM when he made this known.
“I will plead with the speaker because he has the solution to the problems. He is the number three in the country. We have just one month for the eighth parliament to end. The next Parliament will have its leader.
We have one month and you have done very well during your tenure as Speaker but if your time ends with chaos and things don’t go right, it is your record that has been tainted.
We are in the final part of your tenure where the President has to come and give his final address and some budget approved, but if we are unable to do it because of these standoffs it won’t be the best,” he told Asempa FM.
Ghana’s Parliament is currently adjourned sine die after the NPP Members of Parliament failed to attend the last sitting after they had recalled Parliament.
The standoff is a result of the Speaker of Parliament declaring four seats vacant; something that does not sit right with the governing NPP.
Regardless of the Supreme Court’s stay of execution on the speaker’s declaration of the four seats vacant, the speaker seems not to regard the ruling of the Supreme Court.
The NDC caucus has also in turn declared themselves Majority in Parliament and have vacated their seats for that of their colleagues in the NPP.
