Dr. Amoako Baah, a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, has cautioned the party against appointing Alexander Afenyo-Markin as the Minority Leader in Parliament.

Speaking during an interview on Starr FM’s Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, Dr. Baah expressed his reservations about Afenyo-Markin’s leadership potential in the Minority caucus.

“If you are a Minority party in opposition, when you work hard, you become the Majority leader—you’re promoted,” Dr. Baah stated, emphasizing the natural progression of leadership roles in Parliament.

“But in this case, you were Majority, got demoted, and still want to be in charge? No, it doesn’t work that way.”

Dr. Baah linked the NPP’s underperformance in Parliament to leadership missteps, suggesting that Afenyo-Markin’s previous tenure as Deputy Majority Leader might have contributed to the party’s challenges.

“You see, the idea brought to bear didn’t work, which is why you did so abysmally,” he remarked. “So for you to come back and say you want to lead—what are you going to do differently now?”

The NPP is transitioning to a Minority role in Parliament following their defeat in the 2024 general elections.
