Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson has chided the Finance Minister and the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government for not taking advantage of the plight of the people of Ghana to do away with what he describes as nuisance taxes.
He says the government missed the opportunity to do away with taxes, including E-Levy and COVID-19, among other taxes Ghanaians have been complaining about.
The Minority Leader was speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday July 23, 2024 when he made this known.
“Ghanaians expected that the government would have removed a number of taxes because businesses are packing out of the country.
“The taxes include covid levy, e-levy, ‘borla’ tax, tax on domestic electricity, emission levy. This is a missed opportunity. They are bereft of ideas, you are on your way to opposition,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister announced that government was not going to introduce new taxes.
However, approval has been given for the re-introduction of road tolls.
