Actress Lydia Forson has questioned the brain behind the decision to reintroduce road tolls and keep e-levy.
She argues that the government took off the road tolls and introduced e-levy to generate enough revenue arguing that Ghana would not have to resort to IMF if e-levy was introduced.
So the decision to keep e-levy but reintroduce the road tolls is something that does not sit well with her.
She is therefore seeking an explanation for the sudden u-turn and the decision not to scrap the e-levy.
“You take away road tolls that no one was complaining about, replaced it with #elevy that the people didn’t want; and now you want to bring back road tolls and still keep Elevy?”
Relatedly, Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson while speaking on the floor of Parliament said that government missed an opportunity when it decided not to scrap such nuisance taxes.
He argues that the people of Ghana were looking at getting rid of those taxes and therefore, withdrawing them could have scored some points for the government but they failed to take advantage.
