We can’t support Dr. Kabiru – Supporters of Walewale MP declare

Some supporters of the incumbent Member of Parliament(MP)  for the Walewale constituency, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, have indicated that they would not support the candidacy of Dr. Kabiru Tiah Mahama as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate.

“ It is impossible to support Dr. Kabiru Mahama  Tiah if NEC selects him as the NPP parliamentary candidate for Walewale constituency. Our position is that we cannot back his candidacy under any circumstances.” They declared at a media briefing

They however hinted that they are ready to select any other candidate the party selects to represent them in the Walewale constituency.

“ We are however open to support any other candidate the party selects apart from Dr. Kabiru Mahama Tiah.” They demanded.

The angry supporters of the incumbent MP for Walewale, threatened to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ should the party present Dr. Kabiru Tiah Mahama as the candidate.

The National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party, at its meeting held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, unanimously confirmed Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as the Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Walewale constituency.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the decision was arrived at, following the withdrawal of Lariba Zuweira Abudu, incumbent Member of Parliament and one of the two aspirants, from the parliamentary primary contest.

This resulted in Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, becoming the sole aspirant for the contest.

“The Party regards in high esteem, the decision of Hon. Zuweira to bow out of the race and appeals to all stakeholders of the Walewale constituency to offer their unflinching support to the candidacy of Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama.” a statement from the party read in part.
