The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that its district electoral officer for Afadjato South in the Volta Region was questioned by the Ghana Police Service for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without a police escort.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday (5 December 2024), raised concerns over the breach of the EC’s protocols, prompting the police to take custody of the materials.
In a press release dated (6 December 2024), the EC reiterated its policy requiring election materials to be transported in official vehicles with police escort where necessary.
The EC assured the public that it would conduct internal investigations into the matter while cooperating fully with the police to ensure transparency.
The EC emphasised that despite the officer’s breach of protocol, the incident would not compromise the integrity of the elections in the Afadjato South.
