Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice William Atuguba, believes that the youth of Ghana currently have no right to marry considering the hardship in the country and their meagre earnings.
According to him, he heard that tanker drivers earn as little as Ghc 700 while Uber drivers earn Ghc 300 describing this as a death sentence.
Justice Atuguba was speaking to Accra-based TV3 when he made this known.
To him, young men cannot sustain their marriages with this kind of earnings, and therefore they need to stay away from it.
“I get frightened when I think of it. On social media, you find tanker drivers who say they are paid Ghc 700, Uber drivers who are paid Ghc 300. These people have been sentence to death, how can you survive on this?
You have no right to marry because you can’t sustain the marriage. Ghc 700 is not enough for yourself, how do you pay your rent? Ghanaians are so money-minded, the rents are high and they don’t have time for the rent regulations. Some take three years in advance,” he said.
