Actor and playwright Kuuku Korsah Enninful has advised creatives to focus on their craft and invest in themselves so that the growth of the industry benefits everyone.
He also added that the basic challenge in theatre is funding.
Speaking on Artsy on Asaase 99.5 on Saturday (26 October), Enninful said theatre is not a joke.
“It’s really, really expensive. Theatre is expensive. And then you do like the stage, logistics, rehearsals; you have to be rehearsing for months.
“And the good thing is that, like I said before, when I started, so my own, when I call you to come for rehearsals, when you are leaving, you have TNT to go, your feeding welfare, everything.
He added, “When you invest in yourself, you make it better for yourself; that’s when you attract people to come around. And when they are coming, because you’ve already invested in yourself, they can’t really come on.”
“We are just looking at the standard. So the names of Ebo Whyte, George Quaye—they’ve already made a standard,” he added.
