A defendant in the New Patriotic Party Walewale Parliamentary primaries election petition, Dr Kabiru Mahama is dissatisfied with the decision of the court.
He cannot fathom why he would be punished for someone’s orchestration in the elections.
“You’ve committed illegality and you’re in court, trying to use the same illegality to punish someone. I have never seen such kind of injustice”.
Addressing the media after the ruling, Dr Kabiru indicated that he joined the race due to calls from the people, mentioning that the people of Walewale spoke in the election and their voices cannot be suppressed.
“The voice of the people is the voice of the Lord,” he said.
Lawyer for Dr Kabiru Mahama, Samson Lardy, expressed his disappointment in the ruling by the Tamale High Court in the case between
A High Court in Tamale on Monday, September 2, annulled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Walewale constituency and ordered a re-run of the elections.
Expressing his disappointment, the lawyer for Dr Kabiru Mahama explained that he could not fathom why Lariba Zuweira was not punished for her orcherations in the January 27 parliamentary primaries.
“Once the plaintiff Lariba Zuweira was found to be the one who got the people impersonating the dead, sick people and who got the people impersonating the absentees, she must not benefit from her wrong. The law is that if you commit a wrong, you must not benefit,” he told press people.
“So our expectation was that the court would say ‘yes, we found this that it happened but the person who did that is the one who has come to court so she must suffer and not get a judgement in her favor”.
He, however, remarked that they will be waiting for the full ruling which is expected to be released on September 12, 2024 in order to counsel his client on their next move.
This court case follows the current Member of Parliament (MP), Hajia Lariba Zuweratu decision to head to court to challenge the results of the NPP Walewale parliamentary primary.
Lariba Zuweiratu was narrowly defeated by Tia Kabiru, a special adviser to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, by just seven votes.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has released timelines for the rerun of the elections, which has been without a Parliamentary candidate after the Tamale High Court ruled that Dr Kabiru Mahama could not hold himself as the Parliamentary candidate.
