Sports Minister admits challenges in funding Youth Resource Centre projects

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has admitted that the government is facing “challenges with regards to payments” for completing the Youth Resource Centres under construction.

Out of the 10 projects started in 2018, only the Koforidua Resource Centre has been commissioned.

Some centres are close to completion, while work has stalled at other venues.

Mustapha Ussif said while there have been challenges in payment to contractors, there were differences in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the projects carried out by different contractors.

But the challenges have been resolved and construction will continue very soon.

“I admit we’ve had challenges with regards to payments but because the contractors haven’t handed over the facilities, we can’t use them,” Ussif said at a press briefing.

“We’re actively working to pay the monies for the certificates raised so they can return to work, Azumah Nelson, Navrongo, and Nhyinahini.

“I want to assure you that all the contractors will be duly paid and will soon return to work. Work will soon start on Navrongo, Yendi and Accra phase 2.”
