Some chiefs are also involved in galamsey – Kennedy Agyapong

Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong has revealed that the illegal mining popularly known as galamsey happening in Ghana is not only done by politicians but also chiefs.

While speaking to 3News, the outspoken lawmaker for Assin Central insisted that the galamsey activity is not done by only politicians fingering some chiefs for being neck-deep in the menace.

He cited an example where he met some men in his constituency in possession of equipment for mining and they confessed to him that they paid the chief of the village by giving him a sum of GHc2,000 and a sheep to get permission to mine in the community.

Kennedy Agyapong urged Ghanaians to be more conscious about fighting galamsey because if everyone keeps apportioning blames, the fight will be useless.

“The problem is from the constituencies. I can also tell you that some of the chiefs are involved, not just politicians. If we want to solve this issue, we should be bold to speak the truth. Some of the chiefs are also involved. I heard a chief complaining about politicians. I have a video from my constituency, it was sad; the River Pra. I went there and interviewed the guys. They didn’t know I was a parliamentarian. They told me they gave the chief Ghc2,000 and a sheep. So we all have to be conscious and stop this act, be patriotic if not forget it.” He urged.
