The Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, Most Rev Gabriel Anokye, is encouraging good Christians to take on leadership roles in order to improve the country.
He was speaking at the inaugural annual Catholic corporate mass at Christ the King Parish in Accra, which was partnered by Quality Insurance Company (QIC) to provide a networking opportunity for fellow-filled professionals, celebrate their shared values and find inspiration for the coming year.
“Let those who can do it—in the church, in the state, do it. We cannot stay in poverty forever. It is not possible, we cannot stay here forever.”
“When will the crème de la crème of our society, one day, not stand for elections, hold the hand of somebody known to be very, very good, to lead the way? It could be a Christian, a Catholic, why not? We need holy politicians, holy business corporate professionals.”
“We need holy heirs of state. We need holy assemblymen, holy MCEs, DCEs, whatever you have. Holy mayors. We need everybody to be holy. In other words, to be God-fearing, and do the right thing,” he added.
Most Rev Anokye is also calling for peace ahead of the December elections.
He emphasised that this is crucial for maintaining stability in the country.
“Beloved in Christ, as we navigate the national ship towards the seashore of general elections, which are organised every four years to select leaders who will push the national development agenda forward in building a prosperous, peaceful, and secure nation, we must pray and work for a more peaceful, secure, and stable country in the light of God’s word. Behold, I make all things new.”
