Purpose of Democracy Cup is to encourage people to accept outcome of 2024 Elections - Kobena Woyome
Wisdom Kobena Woyome, Ranking Member on the Sports Committee in Ghana’s Parliament, highlighted the success of the inaugural Democracy Cup held at the Accra Sports Stadium.In an interview with Channel One Sports, Woyome reflected on the event’s significance after participating in a curtain raiser match between a Ghana Parliament Select Team and former Black Stars players, which the Parliament team won 3-1.Woyome, who also represents the South Tongu Constituency, echoed the sentiments of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku.He emphasized that the Democracy Cup aims to foster a spirit of unity and acceptance of election outcomes to prevent conflicts.“Look at the euphoria, look at the joy, look at the happiness this has brought. Elections (Presidential and Parliamentary) this year, we all pray that it goes this way.“The Democracy Cup, this is the essence of it; that we all embrace the outcome of elections so that we avoid fighting and troubles.”In the main event of the Democracy Cup, Accra Hearts of Oak faced off against their fierce rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko.Hearts of Oak lost 2-1, marking their third consecutive defeat to Kotoko.
