Professor of Enterprise Development at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development at the University of Cape Coast(UCC) School of Business, Professor Rosemond Aboagyewa Boohene has recommended entrepreneurship models for supporting enterprise development in Ghana to ensure that Ghanaian enterprises remain competitive in the global market
.”Entrepreneurship and enterprise development are very important to every economy in the world since they provide employment to support innovation and serve as the source of livelihood to the majority of populates” she revealed.
Prof Aboagyewa Boohene who double as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC made this known during her Inaugural lecture on the topic “Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development in Practice: Tracking the Pathways”.
She proposed entrepreneurship training for both second cycle and tertiary institutions to create their own jobs after school to eliminate spate of unemployment situation in the country.
“One thing I have realized that some of the young ladies are eager to move ahead with their businesses but we have limited access to finances for them” Prof Aboagyewa Boahene lamented .
Prof Aboagyewa Boohene mentioned that second cycle institutions will acquire skills in military training, agricultural training, digital literacy, entrepreneurship training and promised them with feasibility and start-up adding that it would empower students to unleash their potential as future business leaders and change-makers.
She called on government to put in place sustainable policies targeted at small businesses in the country to help them grow and also underscored the need to support persons living with disabilities (PwDs) to undertake business ventures, pointing out that PwDs had special skills and talents, which if given the needed support, could be unleashed to better their lot and contribute more to the development of the country.
