As of 1 January 2024, Kenya removed its visa requirements for all foreign visitors and implemented an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system instead.
The eTA requirements are as follows:
- Applications can be submitted up to 90 days before travel and must be submitted at least three days in advance.
- The eTA fee is USD 32.50.
- The eTA is suitable for single entry, but visitors who leave Kenya to other East African Community (EAC) countries may re-enter, provided their eTA is still valid.
- Proof of reservation at the hotel where you plan to stay is required (if staying with friends, an invitation letter is also acceptable).
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you come from an endemic country.
Fifteen African countries are eTA-exempted. These countries include Burundi, South Sudan, DR Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana, Comoros, Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mozambique, San Marino, and South Africa.
Among these countries, Rwanda and Uganda are the only two that require a national ID.
