Power Crises: The Next gov’t will inherit the mess of current administration- Solomon Owusu

A prominent member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu has expressed worry over the intermittent power supply faced by the country and the debt involved.

During a panel discussion on TV3’s NewDay monitored by MyNewsGh.com on the current intermittent power supply in Ghana, Solomon Owusu stated that the next government will inherit the debt that will be left by the ruling government due to its refusal to settle its indebtedness

“In December, they told us they paid some $60 million and we are on track. But we are back to where we are. The whole issue is the next government that will take over in 2025 will only be passed on this problem to the next government”.

“That is where Ghanaians should concentrate on that come 2025, we won’t have it easy. They have come to mess up the place and they have come to leave this debt behind so whoever takes over will inherit assets and liability. And this liabilities, you have to deal with it”, he revealed.

In relation to the issue at hand, Solomon Owusu has urged Ghanaians to pay more attention to the message and strategy of the presidential candidates on how to solve the problem that lies ahead.

He highlighted that aside from other staple foods and other items imported, energy is also imported into the country.

“From cables to generators to transformers. we can’t continue to be a country where we important everything in that sector “, Solomon Owusu expressed concern.

A weeks ago, Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited, an independent power producer,  indefinitely shut down its 560MW plant, over the delay in payment by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a press statement released on the 16th of October 2024, it said that the decision to shut down its power plant was a result of their inability to fund the operations due to the delayed payment of ECG.
