Political polls don’t have effect on elections in Africa – NPP MP

Akyem Swedru Member of Parliament Kennedy Osei Nyarko believes opinion polls hardly work in Ghana.

He says this because all three elections he has contested in opinion polls have said he will be defeated, but the main election has proven otherwise.

In a post shared via Facebook, he indicated that the real polls are the ones people cast during the election.

“I have been around in politics for a while and if you want people who are elusive and insincere when it comes to political polls data collection then it’s the Ghanaian voter. They can give you false hopes and heap all the praises on you yet will go and vote against you at the polls. If you select 10 respondents for any political research or survey only 3 out of the 10 will give you a sincere and objective opinions or answers.

Most of these respondents are afraid of political victimisation, targets, attacks etc so they mostly play smart when they first get to know the identity and the background of the institution or the individual conducting the survey. In 2012, 2016 general elections and my recent parliamentary primary elections, all research and opinion polls pointed to my defeat but I proved those reachers wrong by pulling about 70% in all this 3 elections. The real polls results of every elections especially in our part of the world is what’s is cast and declared on the election day at the polls. Political actors who have been around for a while will appreciate this,” he said.
