Political Analyst Dr Amoako Baah has expressed concerns over the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to exhibit the voter register digitally.
He is of the view that most Ghanaians do not have access to phones, and therefore it is a dumb decision to do that.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3, Dr Amoako Baah could not fathom why the EC will not consider the number of people with access to phones and internet across the country before taking such a decision.
“That is completely unacceptable. How many Ghanaians can access the internet? How many Ghanaians even read? You should answer the question, and then from that you can determine whether the plans you’ve made make sense or not.
It looks as if she’s purposely being dumb. Should I tell her how many Ghanaians can access the Internet for her to know this is not acceptable? The least is to print it in the newspaper, the person who doesn’t read will buy the paper and get someone to check their names, that’s a lot better than saying you’re posting it online.
Don’t you know the people you are organizing the election for? How many are educated like that? So it is not acceptable at all,” he told TV 3 in an interview.
The Electoral Commission is re-exhibiting its voter register ahead of the 2024 elections. The process, which is taking place from October 15 to October 19.
