NPP targets 50% of votes in Northern Region, says Farouk Aliu Mahama

The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has said the New Patriotic Party, NPP, has set an ambitious target of winning about 50% of the votes in the Northern Region in the December presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to the Yendi legislator, the unprecedented target is borne out of the massive developmental projects undertaken in the region within the last seven and half years of the NPP government.

He cited the massive investments in roads, health facilities, educational infrastructure, human resource development, rural electrification, business development among others.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s socio-political show, TownHall Talk last Friday (19 July), the chairman of Government Assurance Committee also extolled the credentials of the NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said the credibility of Dr Bawumia coupled with his futuristic policies will complement the pursuit to gain about half of the votes cast.

“This time around we are looking at 50% of the votes in the north. Our projection is realistic because John Mahama had a lot of votes more than the NPP in the 2020 elections. Dr Bawumia’s message is about evidence-based development. In the history of Ghana, no government has ever constructed a road of 168 Km in northern Ghana but the NPP government broke that record,” he said.

“The vice-president brought the World Bank project which we used for the construction of the road from Tamale to Yendi through to Zabzugu and Tatale. No government has ever done that.”

Let’s even zone in on just the Yendi Constituency, we got our fair share including a 30 km asphalt road” Farouk Aliu Mahama said.

The son of the late former vice-president under the Kufuor administration also used the opportunity to question John Mahama’s impact on northern development during his tenure as vice-present and president.

He said “When John Mahama was vice-president and president, what did he do for the people of Northern Ghana? Dr. Bawumia’s message is simple, he has shown evidence of development as vice-president. John Mahama cannot do same because he did little for the people of the north.”

Farouk Aliu Mahama is currently serving his first term as a Member of Parliament for Yendi. He was optimistic that he will retain the seat and even increase the victory margin.
