NPP Campaign Spokesperson decries ‘worst speaker’ in Parliament’s history

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has come under fire from the spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye who described him as “the worst speaker of parliament we’ve ever had,” on Newsfile on Joy Prime.

This strong statement adds fuel to an ongoing debate over Bagbin’s approach to parliamentary leadership, with accusations that his tenure has brought increased division and friction in the chamber.

In a pointed criticism, the spokesperson highlighted that there is a traditional seating arrangement in Parliament that he claims is not being respected under Bagbin’s leadership.

“In Parliament, in the rules, there’s a seating position in this particular parliament for the NPP,” he argued, suggesting that a breach of this arrangement signals a lack of respect for parliamentary rules. This seemingly minor issue has become symbolic for some NPP members who feel the Speaker’s actions are creating an atmosphere of imbalance.

The campaign spokesperson further referenced former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s recent comments, emphasizing the need for decisive, balanced leadership within Parliament.

“What this country needs, like President Kufuor said yesterday, is a Speaker who would realize that we have a very small matter that requires leadership to deal with the matter,” he said. Kufuor’s statement resonates with the NPP’s view that a Speaker should be an impartial arbiter, maintaining harmony even amidst differing opinions.
