Nothing to show for $11.8 million – Joyce Bawah critiques Pwalugu Dam delay

Joyce Bawah Mogtari has delivered a scathing critique of the current government’s handling of national projects and finances.

The Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama highlighted several key issues, including the stalled construction of the Pwalugu Dam, which she referred to as a “missed opportunity for agricultural transformation” that has left the northern regions of Ghana without crucial infrastructure.

“With $11.8 million gone, there’s nothing to show for it,” she said in an interview on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGH, visibly frustrated.

“This dam could have provided irrigation for year-round farming in the northern regions. These failures demand accountability.”

Mogtari further emphasized the need for transparency in the government’s spending and accountability for projects that fail to meet their objectives.

“We cannot afford to let this continue,” she asserted. “People need to be held responsible for the billions of cedis being wasted on projects that don’t deliver.”

Shifting the focus to the NDC’s plans for tackling corruption, Mogtari spoke about the Oral Witness and Records (ORAL) platform, which the party has launched to complement existing anti-corruption bodies.

“ORAL is not here to replace the Attorney General or other institutions,” she clarified. “Its purpose is to collect evidence, preserve it, and prepare comprehensive reports for the Attorney General’s Office.”

She continued, “Once the Attorney General is appointed, ORAL will hand over all its findings to them for further action.”

Mogtari explained that ORAL’s mandate is to assist in the transition process and ensure that there are no gaps in the fight against corruption.
