NDC leadership annuls Amenfi Central Parliamentary Primaries; orders rerun

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has annulled its Amenfi Central Parliamentary primaries.

It will be remembered that the High Court in Sekondi in the Western Region enjoined Joana Gyan Cudjoe from holding herself out as the parliamentary candidate-elect for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Amenfi Central on allegations that she forged her voter ID and NDC party card.

The order of the Court, presided over by Justice G. K. Gyan-Kontoh, also restrained the NDC (who is the second defendant) from allowing Joana Gyan Cudjoe to be held out, dealt with in any way, or recognized as the duly elected NDC parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency.

The order for an injunction, however, stated that the applicants shall file an undertaking to pay damages by way of compensation to the respondent if it turns out eventually that the applicants are, in fact, not entitled to the order of injunction so required.

The five applicants, Gyedu Frimpong, Akubilla Daniel, Enock Ntiamoh, Isaac Twum, and Doris Aidoo, sued Joana Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission as respondents.

A statement issued by the General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) , Fiifi Kwetey on September 5, 2024 indicated that the leadership of the party has decided to annul the elections and has ordered for a rerun.

Interested persons are expected to pick their nomination forms on Friday September 6, 2024. Filing of the forms is expected on September 7, 2024 after which vetting will take place the same day.

Voting is expected to take place on September 8, 2024.

The wife of popular artiste Andrew Keche, defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah was challenged by four qualified NDC members including Joana Gyan Cudjoe (Keche’s wife) in a keenly parliamentary primaries in Amenfi Central.

At the end of the Amenfi Central parliamentary race, Joana Gyan Cudjoe secured 756 votes representing 52.3 percent to floor the sitting MP, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah who had 575 votes representing 39.7 percent.
