The National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO) has shared an update on the Burkina Faso Bagre dam spillage.
Recall that a few days ago the Power utility of Burkina Faso, SONABEL announced the spillage of the Bagre Dam which may affect residents living closer to the White Volta.
According to the press statement released, the water level in the Bagre Dam has risen since Friday, August 2nd, 2024 hence the need to spill over.
In the latest update from NADMO, the hydrological situation of the Bagré and Kompienga dams were shared.
NADMO stated that the Bagré dam water level has risen to 234.48 m; with a filling rate of 94.14%; and a water level of 0.52 m; hence the reason for the opening of a valve today.
The update also said that the spillway had remained open since January 1, 2024. However, it was reported because of the low discharged flow which was 18 m3/s.
NADMO has advised residents living closer to the white Volta to move to higher and upper grounds to enable their safety especially residents in Savelegu, Tolon Karaga, Nanton, Kumbungu, Kpandai and Gushegu in the Northern Region.
