The former majority leader of parliament and the MP for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has pinpointed the main reason why members of parliament are unable to concentrate on their duties in parliament.
During an interview on Abusua FM, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that in their time, there was no extravagant spending of money during their primaries, unlike in this era.
He complained that in this political era when a member of parliament is going through the process of being voted for in the primaries, he or she has to pay exorbitant amounts of money at every stage of the primaries.
He mentioned that after members of parliament go through this tedious process of paying so much money to be voted into power, they try to get back their money when they eventually resume office.
“I’ve said this that in politics, there is no Father Christmas. These MPs end up doing too much work outside parliament duties to get back the monies they spent during the election. All these have prevented the MPs from learning the laws and what parliament work entails.
