Mason Santiago, a standout player for the Saint Xavier University football team, passed away in an automobile accident.

According to the Illinois State Police, Santiago died in an accident that happened on Sunday on I-80 westbound between La Grange Road and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park.

An SUV and a truck were involved in the collision, though it was unclear what caused the collision at first.

Although messages on social media suggested Santiago was one of the two fatalities in the incident, authorities did not name the other victim.

Tyler Koscinski, a baseball player for Aurora University and a graduate of Lincoln-Way West High School, was named as the crash’s second victim.

Santiago was a sports communications major in his sophomore year at Saint Xavier University.

He was a football player for the Saint Xavier Cougars in college and Providence Catholic High School. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of New Lenox, Illinois, was a linebacker.
