Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Works and Housing, outlined his strategic vision and leadership approach in an exclusive “Sunday Night,” interview.
The discussion provided insights into his priorities and challenges as he works to address the country’s housing and infrastructure needs.
Oppong Nkrumah emphasised the importance of tackling stalled projects and focusing on rural housing development.
“When President Akufo-Addo appointed me, he gave clear directives to address projects like Saglemi and focus on district housing,” Nkrumah said.
From a post made on his X account on 8 July, the minister stated that, “Completing the Saglemi project is vital for addressing Ghana’s 1.8 million housing deficit.”
The minister highlighted his commitment to learning from professionals within the sector. “One of the first things I did was to immerse myself in learning from architects, engineers, and other experts,” he explained.
“Let the architects and engineers and doctors and professionals teach you. They will show you what the issues and solutions are, and you can bring your leadership skills to bear,” Oppong Nkrumah elaborated.
The interview on Sunday Night also touched on the broader challenges facing the sector, including the housing deficit and public works.
“I knew the issues from a distance… but when I sat in front of President Akufo-Addo and he said, ‘I want to move you to works and housing,’ it was a different dimension.”
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah noted that the issues are simple and complex but learning from the people and bringing your leadership to bear, one can tackle some of the issues effectively.
