Kenyan president dismisses all ministers after anti-tax protests

Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed with “immediate effect” all his ministers and the attorney-general, following the recent deadly protests that led to the withdrawal of an unpopular tax bill.

The president said the move came after “reflection, listening to Kenyans, and after holistic appraisal of his cabinet”.

The dissolution of his cabinet does not affect the deputy president, who can’t legally be fired, and the prime cabinet secretary who is also the foreign affairs minister.

At least 22 killed after school building collapses in Nigeria

Twenty-two children have died and more than 130 have been injured after a school building collapsed in Nigeria’s central Plateau state, local officials say.

Saint Academy in the state capital Jos caved in while students were in class on Friday morning. Children were left trapped under the debris.

Volunteers used excavators, hammers and their bare hands to break through the piles of concrete and twisted iron rods to reach many of those trapped.

Rwandan government to not refund £270 million to UK for cancelling migrant plan

The Rwandan government has said that Britain will not receive a refund of £270 million since the new Labour government cancelled the programme for Rwanda to host asylum seekers.

Prime Minister, Keir Starmer said, “The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started. It has never been a deterrent…particularly the gangs that run this, that the chance of ever going to Rwanda was so slim, less than one per cent, that it was never a deterrent.”

Doris Uwicyeza Picard, chief technical advisor from the Rwandan Ministry of Justice also that she understood that changes in government happen and different priorities and different policies may apply.

Picard, however also noted that the Rwandan government “put in a lot of effort and resources to accommodate those migrants.”

Trump evacuated from stage after multiple shots fired during rally in Pennsylvania

Multiple shots rang out at a rally by Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday (13 July), with the Republican presidential candidate grimacing and raising his right hand to his right ear as shots rang out, video footage showed.

Bodyguards then crowded around Trump as he ducked below the podium and armed officers took up positions at the front of the stage. Trump repeatedly raised his fist to the crowd and shouted as he was escorted to a vehicle by the US Secret Service.

CNN reported that Trump was injured, but gave no other details. It was not clear how or what injuries he may have sustained.

Police hunt suspect after wife and two daughters of BBC commentator killed

A manhunt is underway for a triple murder suspect after the wife and two daughters of a Sky and BBC racing commentator were killed in a crossbow attack.

Carol Hunt, who was married to racing commentator John Hunt, and two of their daughters Louise and Hannah died at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday evening.

Police have said they were murdered in a “targeted incident” as they urged the suspect, 26-year-old Kyle Clifford, to turn himself in.
