Oliver Barker-Vormawor has warned that attempts to downplay the rising tide of political violence in Ghana will not be effective.

The human rights activist said while addressing recent incidents of unrest and property damage by party supporters, particularly in response to perceived neglect in the distribution of political appointments under President John Mahama’s administration.

Barker-Vormawor emphasized the urgency of holding those responsible accountable, asserting that a proper investigative process must be initiated whenever such violence occurs.

“If we are treating it as a normal criminal act, then investigative processes must be activated because it has happened so many times when we sweep it under the carpet,” he said on Newsgile on JoyNews.

He expressed frustration over the tendency to ignore or downplay such incidents, warning that this approach only allows the problem to persist unchecked.

His comments come in the wake of reports indicating that party supporters have resorted to acts of violence, including attacking party offices and damaging property, driven by dissatisfaction over political appointments.
